Using of the infected bone sterilizing with ethylene oxide as an autograft

Abstract

For treatment of osteomyelitis: The infected bone was taken out and sterilized with ethylene oxide. We implanted it back its place to use an autograft. In this study, metaphyses of right tibia of 20 rats were infected with refined staphylococcus aureus, in the research laboratory of Medical faculty of Dicle University. Contaminated regions of rats experimentally created osteomyelitis were taken out regional. After the control group was separated, remainders (8 rats) were sterilized with ethylene oxide. Those were radiologically examined at Ist, 3 rd and 6 th weeks and histopathologically investigated in the end of the 6 th week. We observed that, infection sign was absent while the union capacity didn t occur completely.
