The treatment of severe scoliotic eurves

The progressİve curves over lDa degrees is commonly seen if the early onset progressive curves could not be treated effectivply. Cardiorespimıory faiJure, back pain, neurologi cal complicaliol'.s and the apparence of bad cosmesis are com- , monly seen İn progressive curves. The complicaıions in the treatmenI of the progressive curves are high. 'Correclion should be obtained by halefemoral lraction preopemtively slowlyand gradually with careluJ neurologic momtoring, then Harrington instrumentation and posterir tusian should be done withouı fıırther correction. If the correction is obtained by Harrington instru menlation alone inlraopemtive spinal cord momtoring or wakeup ıest should be done., In this article l7 scoliotic cases, aJready over LOO degrees which were treaıed surgicaJJy in the department of Orthopedic and Traumatologic Surgery of Ankara University Medical faculty between 197B-l9BZ are presented. Infection was se en in Z patiens and pseudoarthrQsis in 3 patients. Our complication mte was % 31.Z5.
