Results of surgical treatment of patellar fractures

Abstract

16 cases of patellar fractures which were treated surgicall during 1982-1989 in Haseki Hospital Orthopaedic Department are retrospectively reviewed 13 (81.2%) of the cases were male, 3 (18.2%) cases were female. Mean age was 36.4 and ın all of the cases etıology was direct trauma. 12 patients were treated by AO s standart-, 4 patients with AO s modified tension band techmque The follow up period for 9 patients was from 3 month to 66 months wıth a mean of 20. 7 months. \nThe patients were examined climcally according to Levack et al. criteria and radiologically The results in 3 patients who were treated by standart AO technique were good in 1 patient and fair in 2 patients. In 6 patients who were treated with modified AO technique the results were good in 2 cases, fair in 3 and poor in 1 cases. \nAs conclusion postoperative motivation and rehabilitation was found to be as important as the operative procedure.

Özet

Sağlık Bakanlığı Haseki Hastanesinde 1982-1989 yılları arasında operatif tedavi gören 16 patella kırığı olgusu incelendi. Olguların 13 ü (%81.2) erkek. 3 ü (%18.8) kadındı. Yaş ortalaması 36.4 olup tüm olgularda neden direkt travma idi. 12 hastaya AO nun standart-. 4 hastaya da modifiye tansiyon band tekniği uygulandı. Son kontrole gelerek değerlendirmeye alınan 9 hastanın takip süresi en az 3, en çok 66 ay olup ortalama süre 20.7 aydır. Hastalar klinik olarak Levack ve ark (11) kriterlerinin yanısıra radyolojik olarak da değerlendirildiler. Standart AO yöntemi ile tedavi edilen 3 hastanın kontrolünde sonuçlar 1 hastada iyi, 2 hastada orta iken modifiye AO yönteminin kullanıldığı 6 hastanın kontrolünde sonuçlar 2 olguda iyi, 3 olguda orta, 1 olguda kötü idi. Sonuçta hastanın postoperatif motivasyon ve rehabilitasyonunun en az operatif prosedür kadar önemli olduğu görüldü.
