Arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder has replaced several open procedures because of minimal morbidity. However, like other joint arthroscopic procedure, it involves a significant learning curve. In addition, it requires availability of special equipment and certain operating conditions. It is advisable to achieve enhanced experience and competence in diagnostic arthroscopy and then to practice arthroscopic surgery in a staged manner. This review aims to provide an outline of current knowledge about general principles of shoulder arthroscopy, diagnostic arthroscopy, and arthroscopic surgical procedures .
